Uri Buri, Acre: Best seafood in Israel

Sashimi, Coquille St. Jacques, and more. *I last visited the restaurant in 2018.

Uri Buri is a legend in Israel. The restaurant has been serving the best non-kosher seafood in the Old City of Acre since 1997. It has been recognized as the best restaurant in the Middle East several times mainly on the internet. And it seems to keep proving its fame.

The Old City of Acre.

The Old City of Acre, a UNESCO-listed Arabic port town, was magical. It was the type of place where local Arabic-speaking kids get too excited about oriental tourists. Maybe I was the magic. What might really surprise them is that local-legend Uri Buri’s signature dish is Japanese food. They welcomed me, I guess.

Uri Buri’s Sashimi Salmon.

Sashimi Salmon of Uri Buri is like Whopper of Burger King. It’s the brand itself. Generous slices of salmon floated on a lukewarm pool of sweet soy sauce. A scoop of thawing wasabi sorbet was staged in the middle. It was surreal. Psychedelic Arctic Ocean, it was. The salmon must’ve felt like home. So must I. The only concern was that this eccentric temperature range would kill Japanese legends like Sukiyabashi Jiro. But this is Isreal. It’s just Sashimi Salmon killing it.

Barramundi.

Coquille St. Jacques.

Vanilla Creme Brulee.

I also enjoyed a medley of non-kosher seafood and a creme brulee. Everything was uber-fresh and perfectly executed. And I totally appreciated Uri Buri’s English menu.
